Woman, Three Kids Burnt to Death in Delta

Tragedy struck Odidi community, Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, as oil-spill fire killed a woman and her three children.

The incident, which happened on the Forcados Trunk line, belonging to the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), has thrown the entire riverine community into mourning.

The midnight fire incident killed the mother of three and his children who were in a fishing expedition, after she attempted to light her locally made lamp.

Daily Times learnt that the deceased woman, Mrs. Ebosine Photo, (36), her children, Siyafa and Gift Photo, 16 and 6 years, respectively, and an unnamed toddler, were on the night of the incident, out to mend their fishing nets and traps.

Giving a graphic detail of the incident, a community leader from the area, Friday Deinghan,  described the magnitude of the spill and the associated fire as “unprecedented”, noting that efforts to get the company to carry out a clean-up exercise had been fruitless.
