The Coalition of Urhobo Youths (CUY), has reiterated its resolve to support the gubernatorial candidate from Delta North Senatorial District in 2019, saying that the Urhobo nation will no longer back governorship candidates from opposition political parties.
The group, in a letter addressed to the Chairman, Forum of Urhobo President-Generals, Dr. Peter Clever Obakponovwe, said that the resolution was necessitated by the need for Urhobos to keep faith with the zoning formula of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and to put their house in order before the next general elections.
The letter signed by the group’s President, Mr. Stephen Ohwokirerhuo read: “our bitter experiences in the last three general elections remain fresh in our memories and the wounds inflicted on our individual and collective psyche as a people by being pushed to the background has remained indelible.
“As the largest ethnic nationality in the state, we deserve to enjoy the role of kingmakers, such that if we are not taking a shot at the governorship seat, we know when it will come to us.”
“Sequel to the above, it is our collective decision that rather than queue behind any governorship candidate from opposition camp (Urhobo or non-Urhobo) we should support the current Delta North candidacy in the next election.
“We wish to solicit the support Forum of Urhobo Presidents General to ensure that a Delta North candidate emerges in 2019.”
