The apex socio-cultural organization of the Urhobo people, Urhobo Progress Union, (UPU) has described as baseless and unfounded allegations that it was bride to endorse the candidature of Chief Great Ogboru, the Labour Party governorship flag bearer as well as President Goodluck Jonathan, the PDP presidential flag bearer.
The group spoke following allegations by a breakaway faction of the body which had alleged that the Chief Joe Omene led UPU were induced to endorse Ogboru and Jonathan in the forthcoming governorship and presidential elections.
“If you give out money to buy your endorsement it means you are not popular; it is an unpopular politician that gives out money to bribe the people”, Chief Omene said.
Omene spoke after an enlarge meeting of President Generals from the twenty four Urhobo Kingdoms in Delta Central, the youth wing (Ighele) and the women’s wing (Ewheya) of the UPU to affirmed the ‘Uvwiamuge Declaration’.
He said that the meeting of all the major stakeholders has further shows that the body is still intact.
Omene said that any other faction of UPU is unconstitutional and urged the unionist to work towards the attainment of the UPU agenda.
Meanwhile, Chief Omene has alleged plot by some prominent politicians who wants the UPU to be tore into shred to form another parallel body which would endorse Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, the PDP flag bearer as it sole candidate for the Delta guber race.
He alleged that the forces have been using the name of UPU in the state owned broadcasting service, Delta Broadcasting Service and Delta Rainbow Television to promote candidate not endorse by the Omene-led UPU and therefore urged the broadcasting house to desist from carrying news materials from the breakaway faction of the body.
