There is a total lock-down in Arepo community which is close to the Lagos Ibadan express way, close to the bridge following a clash between OPC and NNPC workers.
NNPC workers whose job it is to protect the pipeline from vandals got into a clash with some oil thieves which in the process killed an innocent pregnant woman.
The pregnant woman was said to have taken her sick husband to the hospital, he was later admitted and when it got late, her husband told her not to sleep with him in the hospital but to go back home.
The deceased was on her way home when she met the clash between the NNPC security operatives and the oil thieves and this lead to her death. The husband is still In shock over the death of his pregnant wife.
The unfortunate incident aggravated the situation leading to another clash between the youths who are mostly members of the OPC and the NNPC workers.
The community is unhappy that an innocent life has to die in the bid to protect pipelines. The police have been called to calm down the situation but according to witnesses, there is no movement with cars except you are a pedestrian.
Arepo is a community in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State and a host to several oil pipelines belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation, NNPC. It is also notorious for its of pipeline vandalism. More updates on the situation later.
