Taraba Guber Race: Group back CAN Endorsement Of Kante

The Taraba Voters Watch has said there is nothing wrong with the endorsement of Darius Dickson Ishaku, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state by Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
The group in a statement signed by its coordinators, Ismaila Inusa and James Bauka at the weekend said it could not have afforded to sit by and not take sides in the ongoing contest.

The Christian association has come under attack from the opposition parties in the state for its endorsement of the ruling PDP candidate, Darius .

The statement reads in part, “What CAN did was the very height of responsibility. It could not have afforded to sit by and not take sides in the ongoing contest. As a body steeped in the art of leadership, CAN’s leadership knows who has the best ideas and programs for the people. As spiritual leaders too, they must have the eyes of faith with which they could dissect the contenders. They must have projected into the future and have come to the solemn conclusion that the state is best served with Darius as governor.

“In their interactions with the candidates, they analyzed the manifestoes presented; they asked probing questions; they sought the mind of the Almighty on the matter because leadership belongs to God. They eventually came out with their findings. And Kente went for the attack, calling men of God all sorts of unprintable name.

“As a group we condemn the attack on the CAN by Kente and his henchmen. We affirm our support for their position and we commend them for their courage to speak up each time the state is going through a trying period. In particular, we commend Bishop Timothy Yahaya- that beacon of hope and resilience who has always come out to forcefully on the side of truth. We also commend the Christian and Muslim community for not falling for the nefarious ploys of the opposition to clash our head.”
