Burkina Faso and Ghana will go head-to-head in a 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier at the Stade du 4 Août in Ouagadougou this evening.
The Stallions and Black Stars automatically booked their place in the West Zone B Second Round qualifiers, with only Benin and Togo in action in the First Round.
Burkina Faso will be aiming to book their place at a CHAN Tournament for only the second time having crashed out in the group stages of the 2014 edition hosted in South Africa.
Ghana reached the final of the very same edition, losing to Libya in the showpiece while the West Africans also emerged as runners-up at the inaugural edition hosted in 2009 in the Ivory Coast.
In all, Ghana have qualified for the CHAN Tournament on three previous occasions and they will be slight favourites heading into the clash despite Burkina Faso sitting higher than their opponents on the latest FIFA World Rankings.
In head-to-head meetings, the two teams have clashed on 17 previous occasions with Ghana coming up trumps 10 times compared to five wins for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations runners-up.
The second-leg will take place in Kumasi next week with the winner booking their place at next year’s tournament to be hosted in Kenya.
