Rooney disappointed over defeat by Arsenal

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has expressed his disappointment at the way his team were knocked out of the FA Cup on Monday.

The Red Devils suffered a demoralising 2-1 loss to Arsenal at Old Trafford and their hopes of ending their season with a piece of silverware went up in smoke.

Arsenal took the lead from a Nacho Monreal goal midway through the first half, but Rooney equalised for the home side a few minutes later from an inch perfect cross from Di Maria. The Argentine was later sent off in the match for touching the referee after he was booked for diving outside the penalty box.

The Manchester United skipper feels that with the amount of chances that they were creating before the break, he was fairly confident of getting a positive result at home.

However, a mishit backpass from Antonio Valencia in the second half sent former Red Devil Danny Welbeck through on goal and he piled on the misery on his childhood team on their home turf.

Rooney believes that mistakes like those are part and parcel of the game, but admits that losing on the back of such an error is a painful experience for his Manchester United team.
