Less than two months to the 19th Edition of the National Sports Festival, (NSF) taking place in Calabar, Cross River State, various sporting associations in Edo State are in for a tough time, as there are serious indication of mass exodus of athletes and coaches to other states as a result of better welfare packages.

The popular Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City which is known for its daily sporting activities now looks like a graveyard as there was no sign of National Sports Festival preparations insight.

Most of the athletes and coaches who spoke on strict condition of anonymity said Governor Adams Oshiomhole administration has finally killed sports in the state. They said angrily that some of them are already on their way out to other states that knows their worth.

“You can see that nothing is happening here, Edo State has lost that crown of glory they use to have in sports. Since the exit of former Governor Lucky Igbinedion, sports in the state went into extinction. We have less than two months to the National Sports Festival, and yet there is no sign of preparation here. What is happening here now is political campaign and politicking and only God will rescue us from the hands of these politicians.

“Over here, some of us are not accorded our respect, and the director in the sports ministry is not helping issues. They are only interested in what will line their pockets.
