Southampton Hook Nigerian teenage defender for two more years

English Premier League side, Southampton has rewarded Nigerian teenage defender, Oludare Olufunwa, with a fresh two years contract after his commendable performance for the club last season before the outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic.

The youthful defender turned out in 10 games for Southampton last season and was very impressive that the club thought to reward him with a new deal that will keep him at the club till the 2022/2023 season.

His youthfulness and grit may also have been a reason for the new deal, as many are expecting a renewal even after the expiration the new contract.

Financial details of the deal were not revealed by the club’s website, www.southamptonfc.com, but it was thought to be an improved one from his current deal. The club has meanwhile been celebrating their young defender with fans saying he has a bright future at the club.

Olufunwa is one of the players being touted as a future Super Eagles player if he chooses to play for Nigeria. He is also eligible to play for the Three Lions of England, going by his dual nationality.

A lot of young Nigerian players now dot the football landscape in Europe particularly England and many of them have received invitation and played for the national team. A development that football lovers and the NFF are delighted about.
