Chelsea’s Dominic Solanke continued his rich vein of form by netting a hat-trick as Chelsea defeated Liverpool 4-3 in the U-21 Premier League tie.
The England youth player scored twice in the first half and added another goal in the second half to take his tally this season to 41 goals in all competitions.
Solanke has now overtaken fellow Young Lion Tammy Abraham as Chelsea’s leading marksman this season on the back of his three goals against Liverpool’s U-21 team at The Recreation Ground, Aldershot.
In terms of the team news, Anglo-Nigerians Fikayo Tomori and Ola Aina both started for the Chelsea U-21s like Solanke, while Young Reds boss, Michael Beale, handed Liverpool’s Sheyi Ojo his seventh start of the season.
The 17-year-old Solanke has been in fine form this season and was the top scorer in the UEFA Youth League with 12 goals in 9 matches.
Chelsea are third in the U-21 Premier League standings with 34 points, but have played a game less than leaders Manchester United.
They will play Sunderland U-21s at the Stadium of Light today.
