Security: Stakeholders urge police, media to share information, intelligence

Stakeholders in the security sector on Thursday urged the Police and the media to synergise on information and intelligence sharing to enhance social security for all.

The stakeholders made the call in a communiqué issued in Enugu at the end of workshop on “Strengthening Police-Media Relationship in Enugu” organised by the Enugu State Police Command in collaboration with Nigeria Policing Programme (NPP).

The communiqué was signed by Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Oji River, Mr Eze Matthew; Mr Rex Arum, Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalism (NUJ), Enugu state and SP Pascal Nwachukwu, Officer-in-Charge, Legal Department, Enugu State Police Command.

The stakeholders said that the media and the police were partners-in-progress and not enemies, adding that “the working of the police and the media is to ensure peace and unity in the society’’.

They stated that both institutions should eschew over-zealousness in the discharge of their duties.

According to the communiqué, the police and the media can help in conflict resolution through sharing of information.
