A pressure group, Nsukka Vanguard of Hope (NVH), on Monday, appealed to
President-Elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to halt the continued marginalisation of Nsukka people by appointing one of their sons or daughters as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in his in-coming government.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, the Chairman and Secretary of the group, Mr. Cyril Chukwuemeka Ugwuoke and Barr. Chibuzo Ezikiel frowned upon the injustice meted to the people of Nsukka, since the return of democracy in 1999, stating that none of its sons and daughters had been appointed minister.
While making a case for an Nsukka indigene to be appointed to fill the
Enugu State ministerial slot, the group expressed great confidence on the personality of Gen. Buhari as one of the most disciplined leaders in the nation.
The group however, expressed confidence that Buhari would heed their entreaty.
According to Ugwuoke, equity and justice should be considered when appointing a minister from Enugu State because no Nsukka man had been nominated to occupy the exalted position since 1999.
He regretted a situation whereby a certain group of people, who are key stakeholders in Nigerian project, are alienated from the scheme of things for no just cause.
Ugwuoke recommended that an Nsukka man should be made a minister for equity and in conformity with the change mantra and justice preached by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
