Revised 2017 Appropriation‎ Bill: Edo Assembly gives speedy approval


Edo State House of Assembly during plenary on Monday gave a speedy approval and passage to the Revised 2017 appropriation bill as sent by the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki to the house.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Adjoto, who presided over plenary, while considering message from the governor announced the receipt of the revised 2017 appropriation bill dated 16th of October 2017 as sent by the governor.

The House then relaxed rules 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 49 and 50 to dissolved into committee of the whole in considering the revised appropriation bill.

After considering the merits and other clauses of the bill, the house majority leader, and member representing Orhionmwon East Constituency, Hon. Roland Asoro said the reasons for the governors move to downsize the budget was predicated

on the dwindling revenue accruing to the state from the federation account and the downward trend in revenue generation profile of the state.

The house scrutinised the appropriation bill sectors by sectors, without cutting down or adding more money to the appropriative bill, because the year is almost winding up.

The house affirmed sixty one point eight billion for capital expenditure and sixty-six point nine billion for recurrent expenditure as contained in the appropriation bill.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon Adjoto while summing up debate on the consideration of the revised appropriation bill of the total sum of one hundred and twenty-seven billion, nine hundred and twenty-one million, one hundred and eighty one thousand Naira said it will help to stabilised the resuscitation of the various economic sectors of the state.

The speaker commended members for their passion and proactive commitment to the speedy consideration, contributions and passage of the bill and directed the clerk of the house to forward copies of the approved revised 2017 appropriation bill to the governor for assent.

A press statement, endorsed by the Special Adviser to the speaker on media and publicity, Mr. Jacob Afeinkhena indicates that the speedy approval and passage of the revised appropriation bill is a manifestation of the cordial relationship existing between the executive and legislative arms, in spite of the party differences.
