Nigerians have reacted over the death sentence of a man charged to have blasphemed Prophet Mohammad.
The Presiding Judge of Kano Upper Sharia Court, on Monday, August 10, sentenced a 22-year-old man to death by hanging for blaspheming Prophet Muhammad.
Sharif-Aminu, who was charged guilty, is a resident of Sharifai in Kano metropolis. He was accused of committing blasphemy against the Prophet in a song he circulated via WhatsApp in March 2020.
After the incident, protesters burned down the singer’s family home and led a procession to the Kano Hisbah Command’s headquarters in protest against the singer’s action.
The court has also sentenced one Umar Farouq of Sharada quarters in Kano metropolis to 10-year imprisonment for making “derogatory statements concerning the Almighty Allah in a public argument.”
Daily Times, which gathered reactions from Nigerians on Twitter, reports that many opposed the Court’s verdict.

Gov. Ganduje will be foolish to sign the death warrant. The convict should just be smuggled out of Kano State to a more liberal northern State.— Ekeh Anthony (@ekehanthony1) August 10, 2020
Kwankwaso is the demon who permitted this strange and crude system of justice in a secular Federal Republic.
Man is the only animal that has the True Religion–several of them. He is the only animal that loves his neighbour as himself and cuts his throat if his theology isn’t straight. He has made a graveyard of the globe in trying his honest best to smooth his brother’s path to heaven.— Sammm (@Odobo3) August 10, 2020
