The Lagos State Police Command said on Wednesday that it had arrested 18 suspected criminals terrorising the Ikorodu area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Oladapo Badmos, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
Badmos said that the suspects were arrested during a raid on criminal hideouts, particularly for suspected cult members.
“The Lagos state command through its Special Anti-Robbery Robbery Squad (SARS) operatives carried out a raid on suspected criminal hideouts in the Ikorodu area of Lagos state.
“The raid was carried out in conjunction with local Vigilance personnel, in the late hours of Tuesday at various black spots within Sabo, Odogunyon and Igbogbo areas of Ikorodu.
“A total number of 18 suspects were arrested. In the process, one Riliwan Okegbenro, (16), of no fixed address, confessed to be a cult member.
“He confessed to have allegedly participated in the killing of one Olawale Adebayo, a 22-year-old,” she said.
The spokesperson said that the teenage suspect also confessed that two of his gang members that participated in the killing, were now at large.
Badmos said that the command was on the trail of the fleeing suspects, including one Ahmed and a certain Taoreed.
“Riliwan has also been identified by the brother of the deceased, Ismaila Balogun, as one of the killers of the said Olawale, and investigation is still ongoing,’’ she said.
