Plateau Deputy Speaker Promised House Of Reps Ticket To Defect To APC — Says PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau State has accused the Deputy Speaker, Plateau State House of Assemble, Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, for defecting to the All Progressive Congress (APC), because he was promised the ticket to vie for the Federal House of Representative come 2019.

Speaking with our correspondent in Jos, the Plateau State Capital, the PDP Publicity Secretary in the State, Hon. John Akans, said, “the APC has promised him a seat in the Federal House of Representative and Governor Lalong had also given him money, that was why he defected”, Akans said.

The Publicity Secretary also said that the Deputy Speaker was bent on controlling the party because he felt he was the only PDP member in the State that occupy’s a prime political office and therefore sort to control people like the former governor, Jonah Jang, Jeremiah Usani and others, which is practically impossible, he said.

Also speaking with our correspondent, the PDP Chairman in the State, Hon. Damishi Sango, said that the Deputy Speaker’s defection is connected to the economic hardship in the country, therefore the party cannot stop him from moving to the ruling party.

Sango said that the Deputy Speaker had betrayed the party from inception because PDP had the opportunity to produce the Speaker when they were in the majority, but it was squabbled and now Gagdi has also left with the position of the Deputy to the APC.

The PDP Chairman however said that the party is not perturbed with the defection, as the seat of the Deputy Speaker will soon be declared vacant.

Reacting, Gagdi said that the PDP Chairman had equally promised him House of Rep ticket come 2019 if he remained in the Party.

He also said that Governor Simon Lalong cannot give him money to woo him to APC.

His words, “I make bold to say that Governor Lolong cannot give me money to influence my decision to join APC and I can address a press conference on that.

“I defected for some obvious reasons, the PDP in the State does not see me as one who occupied one of the prime political position and does not respect me as such.

“An elders committee was inauguratedn the PDP and I was not part of it, this show that they don’t regard me.

“My people wanted me to join the APC, because that is where they belong and my structure also belongs to the APC.

“I won election in my constituency because my people voted me and not PDP, the PDP cannot win election in my constituent.

“If you have the people at the grass root, you don’t need to fear to win any election, Gagdi said.

Recall that the Plateau State Deputy Speaker recently dumped the PDP for the ruling All Progressive Congress.
