Some aggrieved members and chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), from Yobe South Senatorial District of Yobe State, have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
They said they were leaving the party because of alleged oppression, insensitivity and selfishness of the elected representatives of their former party.
The defection from the PDP during the Easter break was a major setback, as of over 6,000 persons led by a known grassroots politician and prominent member, Hauwa Ibrahim Nagodi defected.
The former PDP Woman Leader in Yobe South Senatorial District said, “We worked hard and ensured PDP succeeds in our area, but the elected representatives disappointed by divorcing themselves from the electorate.”
Alhaji Saleh Jauro and Ibrahim Gimba Fika while speaking during an open reception organised by the APC at the Chadi Primary School, Potiskum, said they decided to dump the PDP due to the noticeable lack of internal harmony in their former party.
They described the PDP elected leaders in the state as emperors and oppressors, adding that they had to seek refuge in the APC for progress and development of the zone and state at large.
They pledged to work hard for the success of the APC in the state.
Earlier, Alhaji Adamu Chillariye, the Yobe State Chairman of the APC, while welcoming the new APC members, said the occasion was organised to welcome those who had for long been under bondage under the PDP and had decided to leave before it was too late.
While receiving the defectors, the Chairman of Potiskum Local Government Area, Ado Hamza Ngojin, said that the occasion had effectively kick-started the silent but gradual inevitable death of the PDP in the state.
One of the leaders of the defectors, Hajiya Aminawo, stated that her love for the APC spurred her to embark on the project.
She expressed joy that her efforts and those of others had paid off with the massive defection into APC.
