Party apologizes to members over crisis PDP
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Tuesday, offered prayers for the quick recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari, who left Nigeria on Monday for London. Buhari, who will be in London for ten days, is expected to see medical experts regarding ear, nose and throat (ENT). The PDP’s prayer for Buhari was led by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu during the handing over ceremony to the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee of the party. Senator Ekweremadu, in the prayer, noted that President Buhari was presently not feeling well and has been flown abroad for treatment.
The Deputy Senate President said: “I will like to invite you to rise, let us say one minute of prayer for his (Buhari’s) quick recovery”. Continuing, he said: “In Jesus’ name, our God and father, we know you are the physician of all physicians, the healer of all healers. Father, you give power to who you have chosen. “This your servant, General Buhari, you have made our President today; Father, may it please You to give him good health. “Whatever is afflicting him, Father, we are appealing to you to stretch your healing hands and make him whole again. “Heal him and restore his health for the good of this country. We pray that he will return in earnest to continue the work that has been given to him.
“May it please You Lord to be with each and every one of us so that we will all be in sound health as he pilots the affairs of this great country. “Mighty Jehovah, we pray Lord that you be with our President’s family. Help them Lord in their endeavours and imbibe him with great wisdom. At the end of the day, may all the glory, adoration be ascribed unto you in Jesus’ mighty name”, he said. Commenting on the handover of Tuesday, the Deputy Senate President described the event as a new spirit in PDP, which is capable of moving the party forward.
Meanwhile, shortly after taking over the affairs of the party from the former Deputy National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus in Abuja on Tuesday, Makarfi apologised to all members of the PDP who may have been unhappy and feel hurt by as a result of the developments of the past few weeks in the party. The PDP Caretaker Committee Chairman therefore appealed to the members to embrace dialogue in the spirit of democracy. Makarfi who lamented the leadership crisis that has been rocking the party since the Port Harcourt convention, assured that the caretaker committee would abide by its mandate of organising a convention and uniting members of the party. His word: “People wondered why we did not rush into the secretariat after the convention.
We were appointed and not elected. That was the reason. “If the process has hurt anybody, I publicly apologise, and in the spirit of democracy, they should embrace dialogue as well,” he said. Makarfi later led the committee’s Secretary, Senator Ben Obi to a meeting with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) soon after the handover ceremony was concluded. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), of the PDP, Senator Walid Jibrin, equally handed over the PDP secretariat and other property of the party to the caretaker committee. The embattled erstwhile National Chairman of the party and former Governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff was conspicuously absent at the handover ceremony.
