The Executive Chairman, Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State, Barrister Okey Igwe, has commended the people of the area particularly the Zone 1 for successfully organizing a rally for Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s 2019 re-election bid.
The Council boss, who dropped this commendation at the weekend at Obinolu Ngodo Isuochi when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Umunneochi LGA held the rally to sensitise the people on the need to re-elect the governor come 2019, used the opportunity to celebrate the double victories that came to the party recently.
While describing the rally as a template for the other rallies that would take place in the area, Igwe informed that the governor has distinguished himself by his works which has formed the basis for his re-election come next gubernatorial election in the state.
He stated that the people needed to be informed adequately of the giant strides of the governor, stating that local government area would be organising a monthly rally to intimate the people on the need to bring back the governor to Government House Umuahia.
The Umunneochi council boss, however, charged the people that the vision for 2019 would not be realisable if the people do not have their voter cards, urging people to come out for their registration, stating his readiness to mobilise them to assist in their movement to the local government headquarters for their registration at INEC.
In his speech, the PDP State Deputy Chairman, Abia North and Zonal Chairman, Hon. Matthew Ibe, expressed joy over the recent victories that came to the party, ranging from the Governor Ikpeazu to Ahmed Makarfi, stating that the party has been repositioned to take back its glory in the country, hence the dire need to bring back the aggrieved members of the party.
He charged the people to go for their voter cards as all efforts to return the governor remains effort in futility without their PVCs.
According to the immediate past Commissioner for the Economic and Poverty Reduction, Barrister Chima Mgbeke, because Umunneochi is a PDP area, the rally organised to galvanise the people for 2019 became imperative so that the government would be informed of their promise to bring the governor back.
According to Mgbeke, the governor has lifted the state to a higher height developmentally, a feat that has remained second to none.
