…Let’s meet in court – Saraki
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has stated that the Senate President, Bukola Saraki should provide evidence of inducement against him (Oshiomhole) or he will go to court.
The Senate President was reported to have alleged that the National Chairman of the ruling APC has no moral ground to be in politics due to the manner the party’s primary election was conducted under him, calling for his resignation.
However, in swift reaction, the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki in a statement by his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Yusuph Olaniyonu,
also described the threat by the former Edo State Governor to sue him over his statement that Oshiomhole ought to quit politics on moral grounds over the allegations against him, as an empty boast because he (Saraki) will be ready to meet him (Oshiomhole) in court.
Speaking to journalists at the party secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, the press secretary to the Chairman, Simon Ebegbulem said:
“The unwarranted attack on the character of the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, by the senate President, Bukola Saraki is pathetic and irresponsible resort to petty politics.
According to Ebegbulem, “Saraki, a usurper of and pretender to the position of senate president, has no moral ground to call for the resignation of the national chairman, Oshiomhole, it is sad that Saraki,
who just woke up from slumber occasioned by his crushing defeat at the Port Harcourt presidential primary election of his party, could degenerate to such a low level.
“It is equally sad, but not unexpected, that Saraki, who is politically drowning, would make such libellous comments against the national chairman of the APC.
And I challenge Saraki to mention one name of an aspirant that gave money to the National Chairman or we file a legal action against him.
“The basis on which he made those comments was tenuous and unjustifiable; it is on record that Saraki has been in the eye of investigations by the EFCC and the ICPC for sundry cases of corruption and this is the same man that has taken it upon himself to question Comrade Oshiomhole’s credibility.
“We challenge him to mention one person who has claimed he gave money to Oshiomhole to influence him and the decision of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in the just-concluded primary elections.
‘We insist that Saraki with his kind of politics is nothing but a monumental disgrace to the nation’s democracy”, he said.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress has responded to purported endorsement of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar by some Igbo leaders.
According to the party spokesman, Lanre Issa-Onillu, “The APC considers Atiku and his PDP co-travellers as people who have lost any sense of shame.
The reported endorsement of Atiku and PDP by some leaders in the South East for the 2019 general elections is an affront on the Igbo people who were frontline victims of the 16 years of the PDP misrule.
“It will be interesting to know what the PDP will be telling the People during the campaign. The South East people have three and half years visible progress in terms of massive infrastructure
and the thousands of common people who are benefiting from the social program investments under APC to compare to the PDP’s 16 years of retrogation”, the party noted.
Onilu stated that the party is confident that the Igbo won’t be fooled by any group to sell a thoroughly discredited party like the PDP to the very discerning Igbo people.
Again, the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, said that Nigerians are eagerly awaiting how President Muhammadu Buhari will handle the serious allegations of bribery levelled against the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, over the conduct of the just concluded primary elections in the party.
“Nigerians are waiting to see how the President will handle the serious allegations against his party chairman. We expect the President with his anti-corruption campaign to institute thorough and transparent investigation into the allegations against his party chairman.
“The failure of the President to get to the root of the matter will finally destroy his ability and that of the party to continue to talk of any anti-graft battle. The President should let the investigation be thorough, open and transparent. This is no time for any cover-up”, he stated.
Saraki maintained that until the outcome of a thorough investigation is known to Nigerians and the APC chairman is cleared of the allegations against him, Oshiomhole is not on a firm ground to talk about morality or fight against corruption.
