An All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Ondo state, Chief Owolabi Adelami has said that the exit of the deputy governor of the state, Agboola Ajayi is not a threat to electoral fortune of the party in the October 10 gubernatorial poll.
He said Agboola is just a paper weight politician whose decamping cannot in any way affect the performance of APC.
Adelami who was at the national secretariat of APC in Abuja on Wednesday to return his nomination form dispelled as rumour, claims that a large number of APC members defected with Ajayi to the oppidition PDP.
The former Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly said Agboola’s exit did not cause any ill – feeling among APC members, whom he said are united more than ever with a mission to deliver Ondo state to the party again.
He said “there is no threat at all because what would have been a threat are those aggrieved APC members.
They are coming together, they are united now.
“What brought about disunity among them is the deputy governor, they are united in sending Agboola away and that has brought us together. And we have about 80 per cent of the APC population in Ondo state”.
The aspirant said his entry into the race for APC ticket is for real and his mission is to come and rescue Ondo State from maladministration under Akeredolu.
“My mission is to come and build the party, maintain party cohesion and that is what I know to do best. I have managed over the years human resources and financial resources and coming to Ondo State is not new, I am coming to do what I know how to do best.
“Ondo State is yearning for something new, something novel. If you look at the history of Ondo State you will find out this is not the first time, remember Baba Ajasin who was a renowned teacher and a technocrat, Baba Adefarati, a renowned teacher and a technocrat, they all performed well”.
Speaking on the new party leadership at the national level, he commended the National Executive council for appointing party men and women of high quality to man the affairs of the party after the dissolution of the National Working Committee (NWC).
“They are men of integrity, if you look at the profile of all the new leaders that are there now, they are men of integrity. I have no doubt that they will be transparent, they will not be biased in the execution of their duties so that at the end of the day all members of APC will be happy for it”, said Adelami.
