The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state has criticised the government of Governor Olusegun Mimiko for refusing to pay civil servants in its workforce their outstanding salaries.
The party said that civil servants in the state are currently moaning and groaning under serious economic hardship with backlog salaries of five months in the Mimiko administration.
In a statement issued on Sunday by its Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Steve Otaloro, the party empathized with the civil servants in the state and wondered what was delaying the payment of their salaries.
Otaloro said in spite of President Muhammadu Buhari led-federal government intervention fund meant to pay off salary and pension arrears of workers and pensioners, which the state got well over N15billion, Governor Mimiko had refused to pay workers their salaries.
“The last time they received salaries was last year. This action of the government has almost paralysed the civil service as many civil servants now sit at home as they could not afford the means of transportation to work.
“Consequently, this development has had an adverse effect on the economic activities of the state, which are now at the lowest ebb in the history of the state”, he said.
