Olubadan condemns herdsmen attack on farmers

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso 1, has advised Nigerians irrespective of their ethnic groupings to learn to live together in peace and harmony.
Oba Adetunji gave this plea at his Popoyemoja, Ibadan palace, at the weekend, while welcoming the representatives of the Fulani community from Oja Ibadan near Ogunmakin.
The group, led by Alhaji Yunusa Wakili, and Alhaji Sulaimon Olanipekun, who is the leader of Yoruba community in the market. While addressing them, Oba Adetunji frowned at the activities of some Fulani herdsmen that were in the habit of grazing on farmlands, thereby destroying valuable crops.
“We are not well pleased with the activities of some of your people who used their cattle to destroy our farmers’ crops. Their act is not acceptable to us. They must respect the laws of the land,” he said.
“The recent attack on our people at Lagelu Local Government Area, where some villagers were sacked with their belongings taken away, is not welcomed. You should appeal to your people to be law-abiding,” he said.
The leader of the group, Alhaji Wakili informed the first class monarch that his people were happy to be associated with him and prayed God to make his reign a peaceful and successful one.
