Okonkwo tourney enters quarter- final stage

The quarter- finals of the Season 15 of the on-going Bishop Mike Okonkwo tournamnet will hold on Saturday, August 8, at the Practice Pitch of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Lagos.

According to the fixtures released by the Local Organising Committee of the championship, Young Talent FC will battle Soccer 99 FC, while Potters FC will trade tackles with Young Stars FC.

Also, FC Bethel will test their might against Sam Jasson, just as Synergy Ultimate Strkers and Staruf FC will battle for supremacy in the last quarter- final match of the day.

To get to the last eight, FC Bethel defeated Don Jacy by 5-3 penalties after their game ended goalless at regulation time, while Sam Jasson recorded an emphatic 4-0 win over Seer Simba. Synergy Ultimate Strikers recorded a 4-3 penalty victory over Stallon Athletico after playing a 1-1 draw after regulation time.

However, Staruf FC recorded a 1-0 win over Starlet FC to qualify for quarter finals, while Young Talent FC defeated Great United by 4-3 on penalties after a pulsating 1-1 draw.

Potters FC scaled through via 4-3 on penalties over Team 360, while Young Stars stunned William Falla by 2-0.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the championship, Deacon Malachy Ndubuzor, has assured that the committee will continue to enforce fair play till the finals, even as he charged the quarter- finalists to play to the rules of the game.

“I’m very happy that the eight teams that qualified for the quarter finals worked hard for their success and the LOC is assuring all the teams that they will continue to encourage fair play till the finals which comes up on September 2 at the Yaba College of Technology.

“It is also important that teams maintain high level of discipline and play to the rules of the game because any foul play will be severely met with sanctions,” he concluded.
