…Buhari lauded for assent to budget, directive on killer herdsmen
Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic and political divide, have been urged to support the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to fulfil its campaign promises to the people, even as closer collaboration is being sought between the Presidency and the legislative arm of government.
This plea was contained in a release issued by the Supreme Head of the Cherubim & Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria, His Most Eminence Solomon Prophet Adegboyega Alao, a copy of which was made available to Daily Times in Lagos, on Wednesday.
Prophet Alao, who commended the thoroughness of both the legislatures and executive arm on the 2016 budget, however, urged the government to hit the ground running and begin real work on the budget as Nigerians can barely wait to enjoy the dividends of change promised.
Also, Prophet Alao called on agitators of secession in the country to retrace their steps and support the new government to move the country forward. The renowned clergy also warned against any renewed hostility in the Niger Delta region, saying all hands must be on deck at this stage to move the country forward.
The statement read in part: “After a long, but necessary wait for proper scrutiny of the 2016 budget, Nigerians can now heave a sigh of relief that the document has been assented to by the President. What is left for everyone in the country now is to continue to cooperate and collaborate with the government to focus on implementing the letters of the budget.
“The government needs our support and understanding to be able to provide what they promised us during campaigns. That is what we owe the government.”
On the agitation for secession and renewed militancy in the Niger Delta, Alao says, “We all need to learn from history. No right thinking Nigerian will want a repeat of what happened during the civil war. Everyone has a legitimate right to ventilate his grievances, but it must be done in accordance with laid down laws and procedures. What this government does not need now is any form of distraction that is capable of derailing it from its path to development.”
The clergy also condemned the rising wave of killings by suspected herdsmen of farmers on their lands. Prophet Alao, however, commended President Buhari for his directive to the military to bring perpetrators of such carnages to book. Alao maintained that the reaction of the President would send a strong signal to trouble makers and ultimately engender cessation of hostility.
