Lagos State Medicine Dealers Association (LSMDA), on Thursday, in Lagos, said research has shown that Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo, have the highest cases of malaria all over the world.
In a statement issued and signed by the president of the association, Chief Kelvnson Emeka Okpara, on the occasion of 2015 World Malaria Day at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, implored donor agencies and pharmaceutical companies to partner with the association by providing affordable and subsidise anti-malaria drugs.
Said he: “We implore donor agencies and pharmaceutical companies present here today to partner with our association in terms of trainings, provisions of affordable and subsidise anti-malaria drugs, and other relevant tools needed to fight and win the war against malaria.
“And to march our intentions with action, we are all gathered here today to lend our support to the fight against one of the most killer diseases, more so as research has shown that Nigeria and DR Congo have the highest record of malaria cases all over the world.
“Our members are strategically located in rural areas of various communities and towns in the state. Their services to the community dwellers, where we operates cannot be over emphasized. And looking around in this hall, any doubting Thomas’s will agree that our association have the human resources to deliver when given the adequate support”.
The association said henceforth world malaria day programme will be organised annually by the (LSMDA), while subsequent events will be elaborate community outreach, road rally, conference at schools and a grand workshop inclusive.
