Youths decry campaign of calumny against Kuku

National Committee of Yoruba Youths‎ (NCYY), has condemned what it described as campaigns of calumny against former Special Adviser to the President on Niger-Delta Affairs, Mr. Kingsley Kuku.

The group said it had observed a sustained attempt by some political foes of Kuku to sully his image by sending frivolous petitions to the anti-corruption agencies, as well as using the media to spread falsehood against him.

A statement by the group said Kuku did not deserve the treatment being meted out to him, having rendered meritorious services to the country worthy of emulation by the youths.

The statement, which was issued at the weekend, in Akure, the Ondo State capital, was signed by the President of the group, Comrade Oladimeji Odeyemi, and the Registrar, Oyewole Olurin. ‎

‎The group said: “We note with particular concern a recent publication which claimed that the former Special Adviser to President Jonathan held political meetings in Ghana, when he was supposed to be in the United States recuperating from a knee surgery that had prevented him from honouring an ‎invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

“Our investigation showed that such meetings, either with his political associates or with former Niger/Delta militant leaders, in order to influence the Bayelsa election, never took place in Ghana as reported.

“The reports were obviously fabricated and sponsored by those who feel threatened by Kuku’s soaring political profile that has placed him in good stead to assume higher political responsibilities in his home state of Ondo.”
