The Golden Jubilee Committee saddled with the responsibility of organizing the 50th anniversary of the creation of Rivers state has released details of events of the celebration which would culminate in May, this year.
The programme was unfolded at a press conference in Port Harcourt, on Wednesday, by the alternate chairman of the committee, Chief OCJ Okocha, SAN, who said that during the celebration, the state would showcase the history and rich cultural heritage of the people.
The alternate chairman said that the celebration activities which began in January, this year, with the unveiling of the anniversary logo by the State Governor, Barrister Nyesom Wike, were in top gear with a statewide wrestling competition and other competitions, after the fundraising dinner.
Chief Okocha listed other events lined up for the celebration as a polo tournament, football competition, a beauty pageant, and canoe regatta which had been a popular display in the state and beyond.
According to him, the business world would not be left unrecognized and unappreciated as a day has also been set aside for ‘Corporate Rivers’, a forum which he said would afford leaders in the business and investment community an opportunity to interact and explore new frontiers for investment in the state.
He noted that individuals who had made exceptional contributions to the development and advancement of Rivers State since its creation would be publicly honored at an award event at the grand finale.
Chief Okocha added that as an integral part of the activities for the celebration, Governor Nyesom Wike would address the people of the state in a ‘State of the State Broadcast,’ and that numerous projects would be commissioned to mark the Golden Jubilee.
