After losing about five soldiers in last week’s attempt to penetrate Barma Local Government Area of Borno State, soldiers of the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army have finally recaptured the town in one of the fiercest battles ever fought against the insurgents.
The recapture was greeted with jubilation inside the Marmalari Barracks, the headquarters of the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army.
The recapture, which was led by the General Officer Commanding GOC of the 7th Divisions himself, General Lamidi Adeosun, was said to be a very fast and secretive one in which the officers and men themselves had to toe the line behind the infantry general into Barma town.
The military did not meet any serious resistance between Konduga and Barma. This was indicative of the fact that the insurgents, who are now confused, had retreated.
A dependable military source told this reporter exclusively that it was not easy braving it without casualties, but the boldness of the GOC himself coupled with the new equipment, in which tanks walked over hundreds, of mines around the town produced the hard-earned victory.
