The Peace Building Agency (PBA), through its Director General, Mr. Joseph Lengmang has said that the current insecurity challenges rocking the county if not properly manage, will hinder the effort of the Federal Government from generating revenue targeted at the abundant mineral resources across the country.
Lengmang stated this at the monthly security meeting organised by a Non Governmental Organization, known as, Search For Common Ground, founded by the European Union (EU), under the auspices of Peace Architecture Dialogue (PAD), to address the issues of security challenges that has engulfed Plateau in recent time.
According to Lengmang, “the insecurity challenges facing the country if not brought to a halt, will hamper the revenue drive intended to come from the Mineral resources located within the hinterlands of Nigeria communities owing to the current security threats hitherto being experienced unabated. The communities where these resources are abound might revolt if proper enlightenment on peace building and sustenance is abated”, he said.
He said potential danger is still looming around and government need to take steps in addressing them, saying that government should enshrine peace building education in school curriculum, where students will be thought on the need to live together by putting Nigeria first.
The PBA DG figured Proliferation of light and small arms as one of the major factors that aids communal crashes, thereby appealing to country men to refrain from such act as it hinders peace efforts which speaks for our common wealth.
Representative of the Market Women Association in Jos, at the forum, Mrs Tabita Aliyu, decried the incessant silent killings that is still on rampage especially at the hinterlands, with specific reference in Ryiom Local Government Council of Plateau State where a breast feeding-mother was murdered in cold blood by suspected herdsmen.
However, sighting Plateau as one of the states with abundant mineral resources, Lengmang, called on the Federal Government not to exclude Plateau in the ongoing intervention, rehabilitation and reconstruction program in the northeast.
Recall that the Plateau State Government recently inaugurated the Plateau State Peace Building Agency (PBA), for implementation of peace matters in the state.
