President Goodluck Jonathan has been called upon to resist the calls for him to force the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, to abandon the task of his tenure as INEC chairman.
The Executive Director, Centre for Labour Studies and Advocacy (CLASA), Comrade John Odah, made this appeal on Tuesday during a workshop organized by the centre, in collaboration with INEC and the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE).
He has also urged Nigerian workers that have been at the receiving end of bad leadership and bad governance to use the opportunity of the coming election to ensure a clean and transparent election. Ensure that you cast votes, so that impunity and disdain, meted out to the electorate by elected politicians would end.
Speaking through Comrade Ona Iduh, the director added: “This is the one election that Prof. Jega has had enough time to prepare for and to conduct, so he should be allowed to complete his assignment.”
He expressed worries that the 2015 general election have continued to generate unprecedented passion, hence stresses the need for every stakeholder to exercise caution.
According to him: “When President Jonathan announced the appointment of Prof. Jega as INEC chairman, he was hailed around the country. He must resist the calls for him to force the chairman to abandon the most important task of his tenure.
