Bayelsa SUBEB Eulogises Values of Late Chukwumerije

Nigeria’s education sector has faced a serious setback with the demise of the chairman senate committee on education late senator Uche Chukwumerije who passed away on the eve of Sunday, April 19, after a prolong battle with lung cancer.

This follows the pivotal and robust contributions of the late senator to numerous motions, bills and acts in the National Assembly through his various novel inputs as well as regular oversight functions of his committee on the nation’s educational system.

Speaking with newsmen in Yenogoa, the Executive Secretary of the Bayelsa State Universal Basic Education Board (BYSUBEB), Comrade Walton Liverpool expressed shock on the sudden death of the late Chukwumerije.

Condoling with the families of the deceased, the BYSUBEB Executive Secretary on behalf of the board’s chairperson, Mrs Flora Ebi-Williams averred that the late senator kept an eagle eye on the educational institutions and ministries at both the national and state levels to ensure that they are on the path of policy implementation and work within the confines of statutory budgetary provisions.

Comrade Liverpool recalls vividly that in 2013 when the late senator visited Bayelsa State to assess the educational system it was his sincere desire that education should meet the needs of the rural folks as well as be affordable and accessible to all regardless of status and residential area.

He noted with nostalgia that Chuwumerije has contributed in no small measure in boosting the educational standard of Nigeria through the enforcement of free and compulsory education which is being implenented by the various organs of UBE.

Expressing his deepest condolences to the family especially the seven children he left behind, the Bayelsa State SUBEB helmsman stated that Chukwumerije would be greatly missed for his expertise and effective representation of his people in Abia north senatorial district, his state and the nation at large.‎
