Ahead of the forthcoming general election, unknown gunmen were said to have kidnapped the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ganjuwa West constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Yusuf Inuwa.
Daily Times gathered that the kidnappers took their victims on his way to Miya from Bauchi on Monday night.
A family source attributed the incident to the April election, because Inuwa was said to be more popular and acceptable in the area, adding that the development has thrown the entire community into palpable fear.
Confirming the incident to our reporter, the Police Commander in charge of the area, Mr. Bassey, told Daily Times that Alhaji Yusuf was kidnapped on his way back from Bauchi, where he had gone for other engagements. “He was returning to Miya when the incident occurred,” he added.
He said they were still searching everywhere for him, calling on the populace to assist the police with any vital information that would lead to apprehending the kidnappers and setting the politician free.
On whether it has anything to do with his political opponent, the police said, “for now we cannot point accussing finger at anybody but do our work”.
The police area commander assured that the culprits would be brought to justice.
Meanwhile, the driver of the kidnapped politician, Danliti Amadu Rungo, told newsmen that the abductors came in a black 406 Peugeot salon car, and forced them to stop at gun point.
Malam Danliti said the abductors took the aspirant away immediately to an undiscolsed destination.
On their part, the family of the kidnapped candidate and his supporters have called for intensive prayers in order to seek for divine intervention on the matter.
