Pro-Biafra groups, the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and Biafra Independence Movement (BIM) plan to hold a mega rally in support of November 18 governorship election in Anambra on September 13, 2017.
Founder and leader of MASSOB and BIM, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, is expected to deliver a keynote speech while other dignitaries invited from within and outside the country will present their goodwill message.
MASSOB and BIM leaders,Chief Okechukwu Nwaogu and Chief Cannice Anujuru, announced this during media briefing in Owerri on Sunday.
The duo said that the rally will take place at Onitsha the commercial nerve centre of Anambra state.
Nwaogu specifically explained that Onitsha was chosen for rally to clear the erroneous news that pro-Biafra groups were opposed to the November 18 governorship election in the state.
“The founder and leader of MASSOB/BIM, Chief Uwazuruike, will personally attend the rally and deliver keynote message on the position MASSOB/BIM on November 18 governorship election in Anambra.
“We are not opposed to the governorship election holding in Aanmbra State and have through our channel of communication told our members and supporters to effectively participate in the electoral process.
“Holding election in Anambra at this time has little or nothing to do with our agitation as Pro-Biafra agitators and so any group saying election should not hold is only pushing for violence which MASSOB/BIM ideal is totally against,’’ Nwaogu said.
He added that members of the Uwazuruike-led groups would attend the rally from the five states of the South-East and two South-South states of Delta and Rivers.
Anujuru described the rally as a double barrel event stressing that members would equally use the day to mark the 18th anniversary of the formation of MASSOB.
He said that dignitaries invited from within and outside Nigeria will speak to participants on topics relating to non violence and socio-economic and political challenges facing the Biafra people.
Anujuru disclosed that the event will be transmitted live on the recently established voice of Biafra media outfit in Germany.
He called on supporters of the groups to shun all violent conducts and urged those living in Anambra to endeavour to effectively participate in the forthcoming Nov.18 election in the state.
