A Group under the aegis of Ekiti State Labour Veterans, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate ex-governor Kayode Fayemi over alleged donation of a staggering sum of N1.5 billion to Major Gen. Muhammadu Buhari Presidential Campaign Organisation. The body said it sounds unimaginable that a governor who failed to pay the two months workers’ salaries and pension arrears as well as made all requisite deductions alleged to have been illegally deducted from workers’ benefits during his tenure could make such mouth-watering donation to a campaign outfit. In a statement signed by its Chairman, Com Folu Ogunseyin and Secretary, Com Folu Oni in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, the group called on anti-graft agency to investigate the source of the money to confirm whether it was credible or not. It said: “We hereby affirm that this donation is not in the interest of the State , rather it was for the parochial interest of Dr Fayemi , the donor. “We hereby call on the well-meaning indigenes of the State to condemn the so called donation. We equally call on the anti-graft agencies , both ICPC and the EFCC to investigate the source of this huge amount donated by government, and if found culpable , he should be dealt with according to the law of the land. “We are of the opinion that if drastic action could be taken against the former governor, it would serve as deterrent to other callous and anti-workers leaders “. The group also added that such amount would have better be spent to empower thousands of jobless youths, who are roaming the streets of Ado Ekiti and other towns and constituting threat to the polity, having become willing tools in the hands of the politicians. Meanwhile, Fayemi had while appearing on a programme on Akure , Ondo State based Radio Station, ADABA 88.9FM recently , described the allegation, as not only unfounded , but spurious, saying he never donated such to any group. Fayemi said: “where would I get such money. I want to believe that the PDP is only engaging in frivolity because our party does not rely on anybody to fund the party, but relying on the credibility of our candidate, Major Gen Buhari, whose funding has been coming from all Nigerians, both high and low”.
