The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has said former governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu state and secretary of the 2015 PDP campaign in Enugu state, Miss Rita Mbah are still suspects in the disbursement of the N450m PDP campaign fund.
Chime had while decamping to the All Progressive Congress, APC, said he has no case with EFCC.
However, the South East Zonal Head of Operations, Mr. Johnson Babalola while briefing journalists on Tuesday on the activities of the commission in Enugu said Chime is still a suspect of the commission.
He revealed that EFCC has recovered N60m of the fund from PDP in Enugu state”Don’t listen to what politicians tells you. Chime and Rita Mbah are still our suspects and under investigation of the EFCC.
“We are doing our job professionally irrespective of whatever political party anyone of them join. “Crime has no expiry date, those money remaining will be recovered”, he said.
Babalola while responding to PDP illegal campaign fund recovered by the commission in South East states said EFCC is recovering money on regular basis.
“We have recovered N300m from Ebonyi state, N82.5m from Abia state and N60m from Enugu state respectively.
“We have not recovered all monies yet but we are doing that on monthly basis.
“States where we are having problems are Anambra and Imo but PDP in those states will be taken to court when courts resumes in September”, he said.
Babalola added that the commission is also investigating abandoned road projects and Independent Power Projects in the zone with the aim of prosecuting defaulting contractors.
“South East has the most deplorable road network in the country, projects running into billions of naira abandoned are under investigation by the commission, and any contractor found wanting of abandonment would be charged to court.
“We are fighting lots of war, there are people who do not want us to succeed they are those claiming that the commission is doing media trial because they don’t want people to know how much they have stolen”, he said.
