MTN Foundation to Appreciate 200 Nominators

…Set to Launch Phase 2

MTN Foundation is set to appreciate the 200 nominators who recommended their various communities for intervention projects in the Phase 1 of the What Can We Do Together (WCWDT) initiative. 200 communities have benefited from donations of transformers, school furniture, boreholes and household items to select orphanages to improve lives.

It will be recalled that the MTN Foundation in September 2015 had called on the public to nominate their communities for projects that they felt very passionate about along the lines of providing basic amenities such as electricity, water, school furniture and donation of household items to orphanages. Over 36,000 nominations were received in Phase 1 and thereafter a verification exercise was conducted to determine the 200 communities that eventually benefitted from donations.

MTN Executive, Amina Oyagbola said, “We are indeed very grateful for the opportunity given us to serve people and touch lives through this unique programme. We firmly believe that these initiatives will go a long way to positively impact the beneficiary communities in line with the Federal Government’s objectives to meet people’s needs and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in the country.”

Speaking further, Oyagbola, said that in Phase 1, MTNF donated the following; furniture to 94schools, 20 electricity transformers, 20 bore-holes and different household items to 66 orphanages across 200 communities in the country. We also thank our partners who have enabled and ensured the careful deployment of the items across the country at the stipulated time.

According to the Executive Secretary, MTN Foundation, Nonny Ugboma, “It has been very fulfilling to see the smiles and cheers of people in the various communities we visited. We are happy to have worked with the various nominators who are change agents in their communities to positively impact lives and congratulate all the 200 nominators.”

Inspired  and encouraged by the impact and success of Phase I of this programme, and in order to continue to complement and support government’s efforts in improving the quality of lives in our communities, MTNF will launch Phase 2 of the ‘What Can We Do Together’ initiative in the next few days.

The MTNF events to recognize and appreciate the nominators will commence this week in the various regions namely, Abuja, Owerri, Port Harcourt, Kaduna and Lagos respectively.
