Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has reiterated the resolve of the Buhari administration to support and encourage linkages between research institutes, industries and universities.
Onu, who identified the missing link between the institutions as a major weakness responsible for the low utilisation of science and technology for nation building, said that the present administration was working very hard to strengthen the linkage.
He made this assertion during a courtesy call on him by a team of researchers led by the Co-chair of the West African Infectious Disease Institute (WAIDI) and the Director General, National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Professor John Idoko.
According to him, “We are also working directly with industries to commercialise research findings because we don’t want research findings to end up only in the laboratory. We want all the research findings to get into the market as product and services.”
He noted that his ministry was working very hard to ensure that President Muhammadu Buhari fulfilled his promise to Nigerians by creating the enabling environment for the private sector to invest in research and also protect intellectual property.
