The former Greece skipper admits it is impossible to decide which achievement was ‘bigger’ over the years and praised the Foxes for their extraordinary Premier League triumph
Karagounis worked alongside Ranieri during the Italian’s short and unsuccessful stint with the Greek national team in 2014, just seven months before he became Leicester boss and took the Foxes to their first ever Premier League title.
So which achievement is bigger? Speaking exclusively to Goal , Karagounis admitted there was only one way to find out – by organising a friendly game between the two sides.
“Both are huge and the biggest surprises in the history of football”, said Karagounis.
“If we want to see which is the bigger achievement then I need to talk with my friend Claudio Ranieri and we can arrange a friendly game and see who is the best team – we are still in good shape!
“Well, seriously what Leicester did last year was huge. This team had to be in shape all season while Greece did it in a month playing against big teams, the likes of (Zinedine) Zidane. It’s different but they are both as important as each other.”
