The Lagos State Government will on Monday (today) arraign the suspects arrested in connection with the kidnap of the Oniba of Iba community, Oba Goriola Oseni, before a Lagos High Court in Igbosere.
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem, in a statement on Sunday said the four suspects – Duba Furejo, Ododomo Isaiah, Reuben Anthony and Yerin Fresh – would be arraigned before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of court 24.
He said the suspects would be charged with conspiracy to murder, murder, armed robbery and kidnapping.
Kazeem said, “The suspects will be arraigned on eight counts relating to kidnapping of the monarch, murder of the palace security guard, Sunday Okanlawon, and a commercial motorcyclist, Joseph Okeke.
“They will also be arraigned on attempted murder of the monarch’s wife, Abosede Oseni, and robbery of her property.”
The commissioner said the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode-led administration would rid the state of criminality, adding that his office would work with all security agencies to ensure that cases of kidnapping, cultism, rape, sexual and domestic violence crimes were swiftly prosecuted.
“The commencement of the trial of the suspects in the kidnap of the Oniba is a signal from the state government that it is not business as usual for criminals. If you commit a crime, we will find and prosecute you,” Kazeem added.
The monarch was kidnapped on July 16, 2016, during which Okanlawon and Okeke were killed. The Oniba had remained in captivity for about three weeks before he was rescued, while the four suspects were thereafter arrested.
