The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday rescued a young man allegedly chained for more than one year at No. 18 Damigoro Street in the Mushin area of the state.
It was gathered that the young man, identified as Bolaji Sholola, was kept under lock by his 85-year old grandmother.
Sholola, who is alleged to be mentally ill, was said to have been feeding and doing other human activities on same spot for the said period.
The grandmother, on her part, alleged that the action was consented to by other family members.
However, the area commander for the Area D police command who was also on the ground for the rescue mission condemned the action.
The victim has also been taken to the Psychiatric Hospital in Yaba by the police for immediate medical attention.
When contacted via text message for more information on the incident, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole was yet to reply our correspondent as at the time of filling in this report.
Meanwhile, on the suspected ritualists den uncovered at Obadeyi in Ijaye area of Lagos, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, has said seven suspects have so far been arrested.
According to Owoseni, “for now, about seven persons who are suspected to be using those buildings as base for rituals, have been arrested.
“We will continue to give it a touch of professionalism and scientific approach by deploying sniffer dogs that can also penetrate into the canal to see whether we can get materials to be of evidential value.”
Police search has also discovered clothes, under wears, identity cards and wigs of people perceived to belong to some victims were seen at an abandoned house used as a hideout by the suspects.
Owoseni however maintained that investigations were still on and that all the perpetrators will definitely face the wrath of the law.
