Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly been offered to Barcelona in a potentially shocking move that would see him line up alongside his eternal rival, Lionel Messi.
Daily Mail reports that the former Real Madrid talisman could be on his way out of Juventus, after two seasons with The Old Lady, who are looking yank off the financial burden of Ronaldo’s £28m-per-year salary, according to Spanish journalist Guillem Balague.
Balague explained to the BBC that the Serie A champions are desperate to offload Ronaldo due to his mammoth wages, hence the decision to offer him to Europe’s heavyweights, including Barcelona.
‘He’s been offered everywhere, including Barcelona,’ Balague told 5 Live Sport: I’m not sure if they can get rid of him easily with the kind of money he earns. Who is going to pay that kind of money?’
The Blaugrana have been seriously hit financially by the coronavirus pandemic and seem unable to make big-money signings during the summer period as they look to rebuild ahead of next season when they hope to wrestle back the La Liga title from the Les Merengues.
Having Ronaldo and Messi on the same side has been a mouth-watering prospect for many football fans around the world; and, even in the light of recent events, it remains a highly unlikely possibility that the two rivals will finally unite as allies, particularly owing to Ronaldo’s ties with Barcelona’s bitter rivals, Real Madrid.
The two players have been slugging it out on the highest stage in football for a decade and a half, sparking widespread argument as to who’s the better player of the round leather game. They share eleven Ballon d’Or awards between them; Messi with six and Ronaldo with five, and have a combined 1,272 career goals.
Ronaldo still has two years left on his current deal with Juventus, following a four-year deal he signed back in 2018, and he’s yet to make any official statement to the recent developments.
