A former member of Imo state House of Assembly, Lawman Duruji has challenged the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Chiji Collins to make public his educational certificates obtained from various institutions.
Fielding questions from newsmen in Owerri on Wednesday, the ex-lawmaker, who represented Ehime Mbano State Constituency, alleged that the speaker parades forged certificates and should therefore, be probed.
Duruji denied being sponsored to challenge the authenticity of the speaker’s certificates and vowed that he would stop at nothing until the general public know the truth about the issue.
He said: “One big mistake made by the former Governor of the state, Emeka Ihedioha was the imposition of Chiji Collins as speaker, even when it was clear he has some skeleton in his cupboard.
“Quote me, he (Chiji) parades fake credentials, his Ph.D is fake and he also forged his NYSC exemption certificate.
“He claimed to have graduated with HND in 1981 when he was 24 years old and took exemption from NYSC. At 24 years old, was he entitled to exemption?
“Who exempted him from participating in the national service scheme? What does the NYSC Act say about exemption? Why has he refused to honour the NYSC invitation to Abuja with the clerk of the House?
“Why has he refused to publish his certificates for public scrutiny? Can someone obtain a Ph.D without first degree or masters degree? These are some of the questions that Chiji Collins must answer, no amount of delay tactics and intimidation can save him this time.”
The former lawmaker also accused the speaker of lobbying to persuade the committee set up to investigate his certificates, to avert justice on the issue; insisting that such attempts would not save him from the impending doom.
“The committee chairman at the House plenary held on April 23, distanced themselves from the statement credited to the embattled speaker that the committee has cleared him.
“The Chairman, Nwaneri informed the House that the committee has not been able to locate the purported university six months after the committee was inaugurated.
“The committee is asking for more time to see if the committee could locate and establish correspondence with the school,” he quoted the House committee chairman as saying.
Duruji further revealed that he was the one that read the citation of Collins when he nominated him as speaker on the inauguration of the House.
“And after that, petitions flooded the House with indications that the speaker impersonated and misled the public by fraudulently affixing Ph.D to his name.
“Chiji Collins was my colleague in the 8th House without a single bill or motion standing in his name. The delay tactics he is applying to the demands of the committee will never save him; his days are numbered as the speaker and as member representing Isiala Mbano State Constituency, just watch out,” he added.
At the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the embattled speaker on the matter yielded no result as several phone calls to his mobile line received no response.
