Imo APC crisis: Party backs Oshiomhole on Gov’ship candidate

The recognised All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship candidate in Imo State in the 2019 general election by the National Working Committee (NWC), Hope Uzodinma has equally received the blessings of the state chapter with its support. The state chairman of the party, Dan Nwafor made this revelation to journalists at the National Secretariat in Abuja on Friday against reports that governor Okorocha’s son in-law also, governorship aspirant, Uche Nwosu the Governorship ticket of the Action Alliance party (AA). It was also reported that 19 members of the State House of Assembly had defected to the same party along with Nwosu. But Nwafor, who was at the national secretariat along with the state secretary and women leader, said the APC was intact and moving ahead in the state, fully prepared for the election come 2019. He said: “President Muhammadu Buhari and all APC candidates will win the election in Imo state. I stand with APC in this matter, I will work for my party with full commitment”. On Uche Nwosu, “I said earlier, was the foremost governorship aspirant of the party and due to irreconcilable differences, he felt he should pursue his ambition elsewhere. As a State chairman, I am sad. Because I will need all my governorship aspirants to be in the party but I cannot stop him. “If he had decided to choose his political path, I will wish him well but I will work for my party and my party will win. That is where I stand. Everybody planning to run for governorship position in Imo State in one way or the other is close to me”, he stated. Nwafor maintained that the gale of defection would not affect the fortunes of the party in the state saying; “Anything that will make my party fail, I should be worried about. So, whenever persons are leaving the party, I’m concerned. What is my job? I hope our job is to see how we can bring other alternatives. “Like I said, when one person leaves, we are working hard to bring in five, six or even seven who would replace them. APC is our party, and we are in APC. “The party is working together. For some people, it takes faster or longer for their wounds to heal but we are all in the process of healing our wounds. We are working together; we must put our past behind us. The focus is that, President Buhari will win and all the candidates of our Party in Imo State will win, so, we are working with everyone in the state chapter of the party”, he noted. Tom Okpe, Abuja
