The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), in Abia State, on Wednesday, held a rally in Umuahia metropolis, in support of its gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Alex Otti, who was declared the winner of April elections by the Appeal Court, sitting in Owerri last week.
Addressing the crowd at Isi Gate, Umuahia, the State Chairman of APGA, Rev Augustine Ehiemere, described the judgment as a victory for democracy, development and progress for Abia State, and that the party was grateful to God that, finally, justice had been done in the election petition matter.
He expressed optimism that the Supreme Court would confirm the judgment.
The rally, which brought together supporters of the party from the 17 local government areas of the state and professional groups was led by Ehiemere to thank God for the judgment, saw them march through major streets of Umuahia, the capital city, with placards with inscriptions like, “Abians are free from Economic Bondage,” “Bye- Bye to Unemployment in Abia,” “Alex Otti, Abians are proud of you,” “Join us to celebrate Alex Otti.”
He said that the rally was organised by a coalition of pro-groups for good governance in Abia to celebrate the victory of APGA and its candidate in the election, Dr Alex Otti, saying that Abia people were happy that the mandate, which was given to APGA had been recovered through the Appeal Court judgment.
Also speaking, the minority leader of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Ikedi Ezekwesiri, said that December 31, 2015, would go down in history as the day God manifested himself on behalf of the people, even when it appeared as if all hopes had been lost and prayers not answered over the election.
“It was a day of transformation; change and liberation were delivered to Abians. Today Abians have trooped out to the streets to thank God for recovering their stolen mandate,” he said.
The pro-groups, Berth Ekeoma, appealed to the people to be patient saying that it was a matter of time before APGA would take over the reins of government.
