Despite indications that the outcome of the concluded congresses of the Taraba State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was characterised by pockets of controversies, which is already threatening the party’s dream for the state, it is timely to stress the need for timely intervention from the national headquarters.
It is quiet worrisome that in spite of complaints, those who could better be described as losers have continued to give the impression that all is well, leaving some of the key stakeholders to be fashioning out ways to seek refuge under other political platforms.
It may interest Nigerians and Tarabians to know that on May 20, 2019 at the rescheduled All Progressives Congress (APC) state congresses which took place at FASTRACK HOTELS, Jalingo, Taraba State, an overwhelming majority of delegates voted in favour of Hon Ibrahim Tukur El-Sudi after four of the six chairmanship aspirants stepped down by consensus in his favour.
A voice vote was taken, which led to his emergence as the duly elected Taraba State APC chairman in the presence of a three man panel set by the APC Taraba State Congress Election Committee (TSCEC).
Despite the fact that all other chairmanship candidates except Alhaji Abdulmumuni Faki stepped down by consensus for Hon Ibrahim El-Sudi, who was then voted unanimously by the congress delegates and the results duly transmitted to the APC National Headquarters by the SCEC, an APC chieftain conspired with some members to overturn the results
and perversely declared Alhaji Abdulmumuni Vaki as the winner of the Taraba State congress, thus brewing turmoil, discontent and looming mass defection of hundreds of thousands of party supporters to the PDP in the state.
In fact, it is worthy to mention that while the state congress was going on smoothly at FASTRACK HOTELS with APC chieftains other prominent personalities who were in attendance, include the former acting governor of Taraba State, UTC; former deputy governors, Alhaji Danladi Sani and Uba Maigari Ahmadu; Alhaji Armayau Abubakar; TUC president, Comrade Bobboi Kaigama amongst others.
Though a serving minister clearly showed his patent bias and intention to manipulate the state congresses by delaying the election until 4pm instead of the 10 am originally scheduled.
He attempted to conduct the elections without authorised delegates’ list, handing out delegate tags to thugs and touts hired by a senator from that state, three other members of the TSCEC resisted his illegal permutations by duly convening the congress that unanimously elected Hon Ibrahim El-Sudi as the Taraba State APC chairman.
In fact 10 out of the 12 APC gubernatorial aspirants in the state as can be attested by record threw their weights behind Ibrahim El-Sudi’s historic election.
Out of the five-man TSCEC panel authorised to supervise the Taraba State congresses, a majority of three duly confirmed the election of Hon Ibrahim El-Sudi and accordingly transmitted the results to the APC national headquarters, only for his name to be falsely and illegally overturn in favour of Alhaji Abdumumuni Vaki.
May I categorically state that the election of Hon Ibrahim El-Sudi was overwhelmingly popular cutting across all segments and sections of the state APC given the fact that he is a first class legal luminary, constitutional avatar, consummate technocrat, seasoned administrator and a renowned legislative paragon of no mean repute having served as Secretary to the State Government of Taraba, Attorney General
and Commissioner of Justice as well as Special Adviser on Legal and Legislative Matters to a former governor of Taraba state, His Excellency, late pharmacist Danbaba Suntai of blessed memory, and as Special Adviser to the Senate President on Legal and Constitutional matters ( 2015- June 2017)
As a cerebral member of the House of Representatives (2011-2015), Hon Ibrahim El-Sudi’s tenure in the hallowed Green Chamber was marked by enlightened, articulate and purposeful outspokenness and consistent advocacy on behalf of his Sardauna/Kurmi and Gashaka federal constituency as well as the resolute and pungent dissection of issues of weighty national, regional and international implication.
In the delivery of crucial democratic dividends, a compassionate Hon Ibrahim El-Sudi was far ahead as he instituted key constituency interventions and projects in the health, education, agriculture, power, water borehole, rural development, manpower development and women and youth empowerment arenas.
Having established himself as a redoubtable political, legislative, constitutional and technocratic colossus of no mean pedigree, Hon. Ibrahim El-Sudi is irrevocably committed to uniting, reconciling, regrouping and repositioning the Taraba APC as a cohesive, formidable and unbeatable entity that will steer Taraba State into the APC fold come 2019.
With his unrivalled credentials and awe inspiring resume, the supremely competent Hon. Ibrahim El-Sudi could have aspired for a higher position at the national level, possibly ministerial or federal agency appointment to boot.
However, the grassroots- oriented progressive ideologue believes firmly in the aphorism: That charity begins at home, so he has set for himself the arduous but achievable task of uniting all party faithfuls, workers, supporters, loyalists and stakeholders of the Taraba APC under his lofty banner of “One APC, One Destiny”
and given his immutable and time worn skills as a conciliator, interlocutor, uniter, arbiter, negotiator and political plenipotentiary per excellence. There is no doubt that as Taraba State APC Chairman, Hon. Ibrahim El-Sudi will definitely take the party to greater heights of electoral triumph, popular acceptance and political credibility.
It therefore behoves on the Presidency, the Board of Trustees and other well meaning stakeholders of the party, especially the newly, Adams Oshiomole’s elected National Working Committee to right the wrongs of Chief Odigie Oyeguto by allowing the enthronement of justice, equity, due process and the rule of law by working with the results of the Taraba state congresses which unanimously declared Hon Ibrahim El-Sudi as the duly elected chairman of the party.
We cannot allow another unjust June 12 scenario to prevail when our beloved President Muhammadu Buhari is at this moment righting the wrongs of the June 12 annulment.
The party must toe the path of justice, fairness and due process, or else the only alternative would be mass defections to the opposition PDP by disaffected and disenchanted APC members, loyalists and supporters in Taraba state and beyond on a scale unprecedented in the history of the nation’s democratic experiment. A stitch in time they say saves nine.
