In a bid to cushion the devastating effect faced by victims of flood disaster, the Federal Government is set to construct two blocks of hostels in Makurdi the Benue State capital valued at N300 million
The Presidential Committee on Flood Disaster led by its chairman, Mr John Owoicho who disclosed this in Makurdi on Friday during a courtesy call on Governor Gabriel Suswam stated that the project is part of the preventive measures taken by the Federal Government against the possible reoccurence of the disaster.
He applauded the efforts of the state in alleviating the suffering of the victims of the food disaster in 2012, saying when completed the project will provide shelter for the victims who currently pitch tents in churches and public schools.
Suswam, represented by the Deputy Governor, Chief Steven Lawani expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the determination to ameliorate the sufferings of the victims.
The Governor informed the committee of how his administration had on its part, done a lot to bring the situation under control.
The project, according to the committee, will be completed within six months across the 22 states affected by the disaster.
