ÎBayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, on Monday, warned the Federal Government against the use of the Department for State Security (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force for selfish and political purposes, saying the sudden redeployment of the State Commissioner of Police, Nasiru Oki, few days before the January 9th supplementary election is mischievous and wrong. Dickson noted that it was the third time a Commissioner of Police was being changed in the state, and the second for the DSS few days to election. He also warned that those in charge of federal institutions in the country responsible for the election in the state “to live up to their responsibilities or they’ll pay price for it”.
According to Dickson, though the misuse of federal institutions and the sudden redeployment of the State Commissioner of Police, Nasiru Oki, will not affect his anticipated victory in the re-run election in Southern Ijaw local council area and other 101 units of the state, the misuse of federal institutions for political gains will destroy the integrity of the institution and the nation’s democracy.
Gov. Dickson, who gave the charge while speaking during an interactive session in Yenagoa with the media and other stakeholders in the state at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, warned that Federal Government use of the institutions to protect alleged perpetrators of electoral violence in the state and promote electoral fraud will only throw the integrity of the used institutions into question. Dickson said:”I have raised question on the aberrations by some officials of the Federal Government institutions. They should stop using federal institutions to serve personal purposes. Don’t destroy the credibility of the institutions on the altar of personal ambitions. When this happens, the institution’s integrity is called to question and democracy is destroyed.
“Those who killed during the last election are allowed to go scot free. All I see in the state now are those persons under the protection of the Police and the DSS. And this service is procured by the candidate of the APC. What is going on is a sign of a failed state. I don’t want to believe that the nation is failing too. People are stockpiling arms and they are protected by the institution of the state.” “Any time they change people, I laugh. This is the third time they have changed the State Commissioner of Police. If they don’t do his bidding to kill more people, they are removed. This is victory of evil over good.”
