Gov. Umahi to increase workers’ salary by 50 per cent January

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Dave Umahi Wednesday at the Abakaliki Township Stadium surprised civil servants in the state when he vowed to keep appreciating them, noting that it is only, by encouraging the workforce in the state that they would be able to give their best.

Governor Umahi stated this during the solidarity rally organised in his honour by the organised labour in Ebonyi State even as the workers stood in intimidating ovation at the Stadium after they decorate him with a traditional title of ‘Enyi Ndi Oru 1 of Ebonyi State.

While reciprocating the gesture, the governor made a shocking revelation when he announced that he would credit the account of every worker in the state with 50% of their work wage on January 2, 2018, beating his chest that his state did not owe any worker any salary.

It would be recalled that organsed labour in Ebonyi state had marked Wednesday as a day not only to show solidarity for the governor but to endorse him as the workers’ governorship sole candidate come 2019.

Earlier his speech, the Ebonyi State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Nkah Leonard said the occasion was unique in the sense that the governor has done much for the workers. He recounted the enhancement of the workers’ salaries and other entitlements due to workers despite the federal low allocations due for the state.
