Leadership of the Arewa Traders Union at the disputed Utako market Abuja has thrown their support to their fellow Igbo traders in the fight for the stoppage of the plan to demolish the market.
Speaking to The Abuja Times on its readiness to dive and swim with the Igbo friends, the Secretary of Arewa Traders’ Union, Alhaji Abdul Yusuf, stated that his leadership, have discovered the plan of AMAC chairman, Alhaji Adamu Candido, to use of ethnicity to archive his aims.
Alhaji Adamu noted that his union was at the verge of taking a wrong step, when they suddenly realised the game plan of divide and rule plan by the AMAC chairman.
He further stressed that the discovery prompted its members’ participation in the protest and meeting with the FCT Permanent Secretary, Mr. Chinyeaka Ohaa.
“I will not again listen to the riddles of AMAC chairman because that would have been the worst mistake of my life.
He came to us and told us to cooperate with him in ensuring that the market is demolished and little did we know that the plan is to chase us out of the place after which we may not be able to afford the shops which we built by ourselves.
What kind of plan is that? Initially we supported him only for us to realise the plan”.
Meanwhile, the protesters have described the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Alhaji Abdulahi Candido as “wicked”, ethnic jingoist who deliberately put their business in jeopardy.
Leader of the protesting traders group, Michael Ndu told the FCT Permanent Secretary, Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa that the traders were not carried along in their remodeling drive.
